Sound Dead Steel Ltd was formed in September 2003 by Les Thompson. The company was an immediate success, doubling its turnover each year since inception.
In November 2006 Sound Dead Steel joined forces with Renown Engineering
The companies compliment each other, as both supply the Ministry of Defence as well as overlapping in several other areas, such as the oil & gas industry. Sound Dead Steel needed a larger factory & workforce to cope with demand for its services, while Renown were looking to diversify. The marriage works extremely well, Sound Dead Steel solves noise issues for Renown's customers while bringing the manufacture of skids & enclosures to Renown.
Objectives
To introduce SDS to the small & medium size companies. Minimum orders from existing manufacturers are in the region of 10 tonnes, SDS will supply single sheet deliveries and work with companies developing new products which incorporate noise and vibration control.
Acoustic Enclosures
It became apparent that Sound Dead Steel performed superbly well in guards & acoustic enclosures, but traditional companies did not embrace the new technology, continuing with old fashioned steel, Rocwool & perforated plate. It was not long before SDS started making their own “Whisperer” acoustic enclosures using Sonphonon steel, which converts the transmitted/mechanical noise and lining them with high mass acoustic foam to absorb the airborne noise. Bespoke Design Service
Sound Dead Steel can design and manufacture a tailor made acoustic enclosure complete with CAD drawings, or manufacture to a customers own design, our materials and design tweaks usually lead to a 3dB(A) to 5dB(A) without increasing the cost over a conventional design. If greater reductions are required we would offer our bespoke service and work with our consultancy to reach the required level.
Noise Abatement Society Award
In November 2005 the Noise Abatement Society inv
ited SDS to Westminster , where Lord Whitty presented Les Thompson with the John Connell Technology Award for the company’s contribution to noise control. This was a great honour, which endorsed Sonphonon and Sound Dead Steel as a leading noise control solution provider.
